What's with Apple's new car?
Apple started to work on "Project Titan" in 2014. At a top-secret location close to the company's Cupertino headquarters, more than 1,000 auto experts and engineers created an electric car with limited self-driving capabilities.
Due to internal dispute and leadership issues, the Apple Car project has changed and shifted numerous times over the past few years, but development is still on schedule. Despite speculations in 2016 that Apple had neglected its plans for a vehicle, by 2020 the project was back on.
The project was scaled back once it became clear that Apple's plan for a self driving car would not succeed in 2022.
Apple is reportedly developing a semi-autonomous self-driving car that can travel on its own on highways but needs human intervention in emergency situations and on city streets. Apple originally planned to create a car without a steering wheel or pedals, but the finished product will now look more like a typical car. The Apple Car project is being led by John Giannandrea, Apple's senior vice president of AI and machine learning, and Kevin Lynch, best known for his work on the Apple Watch, has joined the team. It is believed that these two individuals are largely to blame for Apple's push toward an autonomous vehicle. Apple's car project was scaled back under Lynch's path to a level where it would be possible to introduce it this decade.
So now you know what’s all the fuss.
